HOUGHTON -- Former Houghton Chief of Police Ralph Raffaelli passed away last week. His funeral procession was Tuesday morning in downtown Houghton.

Raffaelli served as chief of police in the city of Houghton from 1986 to 2007. He was well known for his love of the community and for collecting local historical artifacts. His funeral was Tuesday morning at the St. Ignatius Church in Houghton followed by a police procession down Shelden Avenue.

Those that knew Raffaelli speak highly of him and say he will be missed.

"Chief Raffaelli always tried to impose on us that it was our job to help the community," said Chief John Donelly of the Houghton Police Department. "Not measure our shifts based on how many people we arrested, but more so about how many people we helped within the community."

Raffaelli was 73 years old.
