OSCEOLA TOWNSHIP -- Sloppy road conditions played a factor in an accident Saturday afternoon in Houghton County. Around 3:45 p.m., the Houghton County Sheriff's Department responded to a two vehicle accident on M-26 near Woodside Location Road in Osceola Township.

The accident happened when 19-year-old Stephanie Trezona from Hubbell was traveling westbound on M-26 and lost control on the slushy roadway. Her vehicle slid sideways into the path of an eastbound pickup truck driven by 77-year-old Ivan Tolley from Dollar Bay.

Tolley was unable to avoid the collision and struck the driver side of the Trezona vehicle. Trezona had to be extricated from her vehicle before being transported to Portage Health.

Her passengers, 19-year-old Kayla Deroche and a 15-year-old female, were also transported to Portage. Trezona was not wearing a seat belt during the accident. She was transported to Marquette General for further treatment.

Tolley was not injured in the accident. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, but the crash remains under investigation.

The Houghton County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Hubbell Fire Department, Dollar Bay Fire and First Responders, Mercy Ambulance, Dave's Towing and Superior Service.

Road conditions have varied across the Upper Peninsula throughout Saturday and are expected to remain slippery tomorrow. Click here for TV6 & FOX UP Meteorologist Dustin Bonk's forecast.
