COMMONWEALTH TOWNSHIP -- A 49-year-old man is recovering from a serious injury to his left arm caused by a debarking machine at Northern Forest Products in Commonwealth Township on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Florence County Sheriff's Department, the man was cleaning out a debarking machine when a fellow employee turned it on without realizing that maintenance was being performed.

The 49-year-old man sustained a serious injury to his left arm and had to be extracted from the machine by fellow workers, according to police. A tourniquet was applied and the man was taken to Dickinson County Hospital where he is in stable condition.
