HOUGHTON -- Michigan Tech has announced its plans to institute a tuition plateau beginning in the fall 2013 semester.
The plateau will mean that undergraduate students will pay a flat rate for course work ranging from 12 to 18 credit hours. The plateau was decided upon to give students a better idea of how much they will be paying for tuition each semester.
The actual tuition amount is scheduled to be determined at the next Board of Control meeting in May. Michigan Tech administrators say this will also be a good opportunity for students who want to take additional classes outside of their major.
“It provides students an opportunity to get a second credential, a minor, a certificate,” explained vice president of student affairs, Les Cook. “They can even start pursuing classes towards a master's degree.”
Michigan Tech will be joining five other schools in Michigan to adopt a tuition plateau, including Northern Michigan University.
