The CAA's Walk For Warmth raised $30,000 to help those needing help paying their utility bills

ESCANABA -- Nearly 60 people walked down Ludington Street in Escanaba Saturday for the annual Walk For Warmth.

The short symbolic walk helps spread awareness for those who cannot afford to pay their utility bills and have no heat in the winter. The Menominee, Delta, Schoolcraft Community Action Authority organizes the event each year as a fundraiser. The Escanaba Elks Club donates their lodge as a staging ground for the event. The CAA has raised about $30,000 in donations across Delta County from January up to Saturday.

"I think that this community in particular really takes care of their own, and we just get an excellent response. We have a pretty down economy... It's actually been worse. We still just are happy that people contribute to the cause," said Bill Dubord, CAA Executive Director.
