MARQUETTE -- Many of us want to hit the road to sunnier skies this spring break, but sometimes a tight budget can make it difficult.

Holiday Travel's agent Laura Chapman says for those far away getaways, timing is everything.

"You really need to book early. People book six to eight months in advance these days," explains Chapman. "The more the flights get booked up, the higher the prices go."

The agent adds if travelers "can move their dates around," they may be able to "get better deals."

However, some residents use the time giving back. Groups like Relevant allow anyone to come on their trips at a low cost to rebuild communities.

"Money is tight for most college kids, so this was the best opportunity to go somewhere and make a big difference," says NMU student, Abbie Beekman
