MARQUETTE -- The Art of Framing in downtown Marquette is holding the first ever "Art for Animals" Thursday night. It's a silent auction that raises funds for the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS).
You will have the option of bidding on paintings made from community residents. There are more than a 100 5" x 7" paintings hanging in their studio. The creators of all the pieces of art range from young and old. Some are acrylic, oil-based, and even pencil-sketched. Most are drawings of pets or winter scenes.
"Everyone's going to be really surprised at the amount of paintings and the creativity that everyone put into their artwork that we framed, so they'll be really pleased," said owner of Art of Framing, Stacie DuWaldt.
They're hoping to raise at least $1,000 for the cause. Everything raised will go towards maintaining the animals at UPAWS.
The auction takes place Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Art of Framing.
