MARQUETTE -- The Northern Michigan University student charged with the accidental shooting of a woman in Marquette received a delayed sentence on Tuesday afternoon in Marquette.
According to police, 21-year-old Nicolas Ireland shot a 21-year-old woman in the knee last December at a house on Fisher Street in Marquette. Alcohol was a factor in the incident.
Nicolas entered a no contest plea to the charge of possession of a firearm while under the influence last month. On Tuesday, he received a delay of sentence and was placed on probation.
The terms of probation include a restriction on his possession of firearms. A special exception was made for Ireland's involvement in the Reserve Officer Training Corps.
