MARQUETTE -- The trails for the UP 200, the Midnight Run and Jackpine 30 sled dog races are in good condition.

Officials say the trails in Grand Marais, Marquette, and Munising have enough snow, but Chatham could use some more.

The snow is packy and there's a good firm base.  The recent wet snowfall has helped make it packy, and the cooler temperatures at night have created a thick base.  But Thursday's drop in temperature and snow helped.

If conditions stay this way, it can make the race run faster.

"If we had gotten the wet snow like we had gotten on Monday and Tuesday, that would slow them down because it sticks to the runners and it's hard for the runners to go through. This is going to make it quite quick," said Trail Boss, Cathy Sleeter.

Organizers hope it stays cool throughout the race.  The more snow and cooler temperatures, the better.
