MARQUETTE -- A new event in Marquette will have skiers and snowboarders taking over the downtown area on Saturday.

The Downtown Showdown will pit boarders and skiers against one another as they perform tricks off of a number of setups including handrails and ramps. Things get started at 3 p.m. with an open jam for all riders and all abilities.

The Marquette Downtown Development Authority is hoping this will showcase the skill of participants in the downtown area.

"It's going to be great just to see people taking advantage of our snow and really showing off for spectators right in downtown Marquette, which is a perfect place to do it with the backdrop of Lake Superior."

Pre-registration runs through Wednesday night with a cost of $25. If you register the day of the event, the price will be $35.

The Downtown Showdown starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and wraps up with awards at 9 p.m.
