MUNISING -- The case against a Canadian man facing charges in Alger County for allegedly trying to kidnap a young girl is moving ahead.

Mohamed El Fechtali was arrested in Munising in November of 2011.

He claims that he was asking the then 12-year-old girl for directions, and then offered her a ride home. Police say that El Fechtali confessed to the attempted kidnapping charge during an interview.

He was allowed to return to Canada after a judge threw out that confession. However, the State Court of Appeals reversed that decision, and sent the case back to Alger County Circuit Court.

In December of last year, the defense attorney asked that El Fechtali's recorded confession to police be thrown out. However, Judge Carmody denied that request and a hearing has been scheduled for March 4.

There is no indication whether El Fechtali will be in court.
