MARQUETTE -- The U.P. is known for its long winters, and during this time of year the high snow banks can make it very difficult to see oncoming traffic.
Recently, a 77-year-old Bessemer woman pulled in front of a patrol car after police say a large snow bank was along the highway, and the woman couldn't see any oncoming traffic.
Road crews are constantly at work to make sure the roads and the shoulders are clear. Police say the best thing to do is drive slow.
"Obviously our snow banks grow this time of year, and what they need to do is just take it nice and slow and inch your way out until you can actually see if it's clear, and once you get out far enough to see, that's when you can go," said Sergeant Ryan Grim of the Marquette City Police Department.
The Marquette City Police Department also wants to remind people to brush off your tail lights to make it easier for other drivers to see you, especially when there's blowing snow.
