MARQUETTE -- This week is Catholic Schools Week across the nation.

It added special meaning to the weekly Mass at St. Peter Cathedral for students of Father Marquette Elementary and Middle Schools.

The theme for this year's observance is "Catholic Schools Raise the Standards," supporting the recent launch of new benchmarks for Catholic schools in the United States.

In the Upper Peninsula (U.P.), there are nine Catholic schools with over 1,300 students.

Friday, Bishop Alexander Sample noted this is his last Catholic Schools Week in the U.P. Earlier this week, it was announced he'd been appointed the Archbishop of Portland, Oregon.
