CASPIAN -- Two customers tackled and detained a man that police say was trying to forcefully steal items from the clerk at a Citgo in Caspian.

According to the Iron County Sheriff's Department 22-year-old Michael Beauchamp allegedly tried to steal items from the Citgo at around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday. Beauchamp was tackled and detained until the Iron River Police Department officer arrived and placed him in handcuffs.

When the Iron County Sheriff's Department deputy arrived at the scene there was an altercation, according to officials. Beauchamp was arrested and taken to the Iron County Jail. He was in court on Monday for charges of unarmed robbery and resisting arrest.

According to the sheriff's department, Beauchamp is on parole from the Michigan Department of Corrections. He remains in the Iron County Jail on $20,000 bond.
