ATLANTIC MINE -- The big Heikinpäivä parade is Saturday morning in Hancock, and a dance was held Friday night to kick off the festival.

The Heikinpäivä dance was held in conjunction with a FinnFest fundraiser. Live bands from the Copper Country played authentic Finnish music as people danced authentic Finnish dance steps.

A Finnish tango lesson was given as well as information about the attempt to break the Nordic walking world record at FinnFest in June.

The Keweenaw Brewing Company introduced its new beer that will be presented at FinnFest as well.

The FinnFest committee said they were pleased with the turnout at the event.

We are so excited about the turnout. We were a little worried about the weather, but, once again, the community has come through for us. This shows true community support and sisu. We're really excited," said Susie Landers, FinnFest director.

The Heikinpäivä parade begins Saturday at 11 a.m. on Quincy Street in Hancock.
