KINGSFORD -- Giving blood is a great way to give life.  In Kingsford Wednesday afternoon, residents did just that.  There was a blood drive at the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District offices.  It was done by the Community Blood Center Incorporated.

Blood donors say they're happy to help save lives.  One donor says it's about helping people and they try hard to help local hospitals.

"The V.A. uses quite a bit of blood products and we want to be able to supply them.  And we're very excited to be able to come up here and work with the V.A., so we supply all of their blood products," said Jan Hadsell, Donor Recruiter.

If you'd like to donate, remember to eat iron-rich foods before giving.  Sometimes people can be turned away if levels are too low, so be prepared the day before.

It's estimated over 44,000 blood donations are needed every day.
