IRON MOUNTAIN -- Many events were cancelled and schools closed doors on Tuesday due to the unbearable frigid temperatures, but there were a few brave souls hitting the slopes in Iron Mountain.

The Pine Mountain Ski Resort kept their chilly slopes running on Tuesday, even as cold temperatures forced many to stay home.  Skies were sunny on Tuesday afternoon, but it didn't fool those on the slopes, who understand the risks.

"We just love riding. We're coming out to have some fun at Pine; best hill in the U.P. Don't let skin show; cover everything," said snowboarder Nicholas Maycunich.

One thing to keep in mind is your feet. Layering and adequate blood circulation is crucial against frostbite, and don't forget to cover the noggin. Helmets are the best protection against wind and subzero temps.

If you're one of those brave skiers, enjoy the slopes, but remember to have common sense against these freezing conditions.
