MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- Recent snowfall means good news for the Noquemanon Ski Marathon. The Noquemanon Trail Network reports that trail conditions have greatly improved in the last few days.

The ski marathon takes place next weekend. Volunteers are currently in the process of grooming the 50 total kilometers of trails.

About 32 kilometers are skiable as of Sunday. One remaining concern is the starting point at Al Quaal in Ishpeming, but organizers believe the trails will be in good enough shape by Friday.

"We are positive that we will be able to have the race course in wonderful condition from 510 to Forestville, and we are very, very optimistic about a finish at the (Superior) Dome," said Nicole Dewald, race coordinator.

There are more than 1,200 registrants for the race so far which could make this year's ski marathon the biggest ever.

The Noquemanon Trail Network is still in need of more volunteers. For information on how you can help, click here.
