MUNISING -- Friday was the final day of the Ruben Rodriguez trial and it was the defense's turn to present a case.

Rodriguez was the only witness called to the stand by the defense attorney in the trial regarding armed robbery charges stemming from an incident in Munising Township last February.

The jury sat through five hours of testimony, listening to Rodriguez explain how one of the four men involved, Israel Velez, was a member of a gang. Rodriguez says in the days leading up to the incident Velez threatened his life and his family, physically assaulted him and then sexually assaulted him with three other men.

The 34-year-old testified he was only informed to pick up marijuana and says he complied with Velez out of fear. The prosecutor questioned the defendant and asked why he didn't call police.

The two sides made closing arguments on Friday, followed by jury deliberation. We will post a verdict here once it has been reached.
