MARQUETTE -- Even though it's the dead of winter, some people are already looking forward to the boating season.  You still have time to join the boating skills class every Thursday evening at the Superior Dome in Marquette.

It's an annual class offered by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.  The course is 13 weeks and goes beyond the basics.  You'll get an indepth study of the rules, navigation, equipment, knot tying and more.

"Lake Superior, being a fairly hazardous piece of water; the kind of info we provide for the average boater will entail them to be a lot more comfortable when they get on the water and a lot safer in the way they operate their vessels," said Course Instructor, Perry Laing.

At the end of the course, you'll take an exam and receive a certificate of completion.  The course costs $30 for the reading materials.  The last day to register is next Thursday, January 24.  The class runs from 7 to 9 in the evening.
