Trial starts for man charged with armed robbery

MUNISING -- Ruben Joseph Rodriguez goes on trial Monday in Munising for armed robbery and home invasion.

The 35-year-old Rodriguez was one of four men who allegedly broke into a Munising Township home last February, held the owner at gun point, and robbed him. Rodriguez is from Chicago.

The trial in Alger County Circuit Court begins Monday morning with jury selection. Thirty-year-old Isaac Cotto from the Milwaukee area is facing trial on the same charges. He'll be court January 28.

Twenty-year-old George Carmona of Chicago has plead guilty to armed robbery. He'll be sentenced this coming Wednesday in Alger County Circuit Court.

The fourth man, 28-year-old Israel Valez, also from Chicago has plead guilty to armed robbery, plus home invasion and unlawful imprisonment. Valez is being sentenced January 23 in Munising.
