MARQUETTE -- Some Marquette Senior High School students competed against each other on stage Wednesday afternoon.

It was the second annual "Poetry Out Loud" contest at the high school.  Students chose poems from a large selection to recite in front of an audience and a panel of judges.

Each student was judged on their presentation and memorization skills.

Junior Reilly Chabie is in her second year competing.  She recited two poems for the audience.

"I think it's a great, great thing that they have one of these because some people can't really compete in other competitions, and if you like being up on stage and you like reciting poetry, this is a great place to be," said Chabie.

Fifteen students competed this year.  The Marquette champion will advance to the Michigan State Championship in East Lansing in February.
