MARQUETTE -- Senior citizens and others receiving federal benefits need to switch to electronic payments by March 1 this year.

The electronic payments are part of an effort to reduce paper and increase security. We caught up with staff from the Senior Center in Marquette, and they said many of the seniors they deal with have already made the switch.

"Most of the seniors we work with, we are not seeing those that are receiving mailings from social security for their benefits, those that we're working with are receiving their benefits by direct payment into an account," said Vickie Bullock of the Marquette Senior Center.

If you fail to meet the deadline, you will still get your payments. They will come in the form of the Direct Express card, which is similar to a credit card.
