MARQUETTE -- The U.P. Children's Museum is a place where creativity and fun lead to learning.

"Everything we do is hands on, and everything we do is designed by kids," said Nheena Weyer Ittner, director of the museum.

Experiences at the museum will soon include more music. A benefit concert this Sunday in Marquette will help make that possible.

From 6 to 10 p.m., four local bands will perform at the Ore Dock Brewing Company on Spring Street. All ages are welcome to the show that includes a variety of music.

The event is being organized by a new local music committee called Flonk. Dylan Trost is one of the members.

'When we started, we wanted our shows to be all about variety of bands, you know we get a punk rock band, a folk band to get a variety of people and younger kids coming out to the shows," he said.

Trost is also a guitarist in Two Holes of Man, one of the bands taking the stage on Sunday.

"We'll be loud and fast," Trost said of his group.

Other bands performing include The Bad Luck Lullabies, Conga Se Menne, and Team Awesome.

Ittner said the museum will use the proceeds to enhance their current musical space.

"What we want to do now is to almost kind of make it an art piece, so we want to take pots and pans and sticks and various metals that make different sounds and then make it into a whole percussion sculpture," she said.

Doors open at the Ore Dock at 5 p.m. on Sunday. The music gets underway at 6 p.m. Admission is five dollars at the door.

"It's a fun way to be able to create something new at the Children's Museum, and go to this event, have fun, and then we'll take the proceeds and make something that's even more fun," Ittner said.
