MARQUETTE COUNTY -- 911 operators across Michigan have new training standards in which to adhere.
The new rules set up basic and advanced levels of training for newly hired central dispatch operators. In the basic training level, operators are given an overview of public safety and are also taught how to classify calls.
According to central dispatch management, Marquette County is already ahead of the new standards.
"We have met these standards for years here at Marquette County, so this will not be anything new for us, we welcome the standards," said Central Dispatch Manager Gary Johnson. "It's something that we have always done; we've met the standards and in fact exceeded them."
The advanced level of training covers domestic violence calls, suicide intervention and stress management. Those who have worked for central dispatch for more than one year do not have to take the new training courses.
