IRON RIVER -- With more people on the ski hills, safety needs to be the first order of business for those on the slopes.  To keep you and others skiing safe, you should first get some training.

For your safety, wearing a helmet, goggles, and the proper clothing is essential.  Next, understanding to stop.

"When you are operating your wedge turn to stop, be sure that you keep that weight forward because if you ski out of control now, you are becoming a danger to people around you, and we want to have a good time, too," said national Ski Patroller, Don Caron.

Another important tip, when sitting on the lift, avoid hitting your skies together as they could fall and become a danger for people skiing below you.
