MENOMINEE COUNTY -- Judy Nerat, a well known Menominee County politician, died on Sunday. She served as state representative in the 108th District for one term from 2009 to 2011.

That victory made her the first Menominee County candidate to represent the 108th District in 20 years. She was also the first woman ever to represent Menominee County in Lansing.

In August she ran for the 108th seat again but was defeated in the primary by fellow Democrat Sharon Gray.

House Democrats in Lansing say they're saddened by the death of Nerat. They say Judy was a dedicated advocate for families and children of Upper Michigan.

There's no word yet on the cause of her death. Judy Nerat was 64 years old.
