NEGAUNEE -- If you've driven east on US-41 past Midway Drive in Negaunee Township in the evening, you would have noticed a huge Christmas lights display.

Eighty-year-old Bernice Anderson puts up the Christmas display each year. She is one of the winners for this year's Christmas Lights competition, sponsored by the Marquette Board of Light and Power. More than 10,000 lights are set up in her yard.

Anderson says she started in November, and it took her a couple of weeks to finish setting it up. She's been doing it for almost 30 years, and her collection continues to grow.

"It's a Christmas card, and you'd be surprised at the people that ask me, 'When are you going to put up your lights? We're waiting for them to go up. That's our main focus every time we go by your house; we look for it.' So that's what it's all about," said Anderson.

She also said her electric bill may increase an additional $50 to $80 during the holidays.

If you're interested in viewing her lights as well as others in the community, there will be a bus tour Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. There is a $10 donation for tickets.
