ESCANABA -- The Bonifas Art Center in Escanaba's current exhibit, Northern Exposure, has a goal to promote new artwork and to serve the U.P. region.

Northern Exposure is a competition and exhibit that's in its 19th year.  U.P. amateur and professional artists competed for prize money.

Ginnie Cappaert won first place for her oil painting, "Winter Birches."

"I think what makes this different is that there's a real energy here.  Every year we see some of our regulars who are out there working as professional artists.  Every year we have a handful of new artists.  It's a growing and vivacious project and exhibit," said Gallery Education Director, Pasqua Warstler.

The exhibit features between 75 and 90 pieces, and will remain up until December 20.
