KI SAWYER -- Each year, around one million people take their lives worldwide.  Tuesday evening, people gathered at the K.I. Sawyer Air Museum for a suicide prevention presentation.

Achieving healthy lifestyle partnership and other community organizations gave the presentation.  Their focus is on a technique called QPR, which stand for question, persuade, and refer.  It helps you identify if someone is suicidal with warning signs like a change in behavior, isolation and obsessive tendencies, then asking them directly if they're suicidal, persuading them to get help, and actually getting it.

"We need to be able to step up and be able to talk about it and not be ashamed about it. We need to find out the myths, we need to say, I'm willing to do something about it, I'm not ashamed to talk about it, and I'm willing to help others get help," said Forum Coordinator, Heidi Schneiderhan.

They're hoping to continue providing community learning sessions with the help of local churches.  If someone you know is suicidal, they say don't hesitate to call 911.
