MARQUETTE -- An Ishpeming woman is going to jail after stabbing a Marquette man this summer.

Nineteen-year-old Taylor Mitchell was sentenced on Friday morning in Marquette County Circuit Court. She will serve one year in the county jail, with credit for 172 days already served. The stabbing happened the morning of June 18 on Wright Street in the City of Marquette.

On Friday in court, Judge Thomas Solka read part of a letter from the victim's mother.

"The trauma surgeon said that if the knife wound would have entered 1/16th of an inch to the right, it would have severed Mr. Skinner's aorta, and he would not have made it to the hospital...so you're 1/16th of an inch from a murder charge," said Judge Solka.

Mitchell pled guilty last month to one count of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon. Other charges from the incident were dropped in the plea agreement.
