ESCANABA -- Community partners, including Bay College and the YMCA, have joined forces to excite juniors and seniors about post-secondary education.

It's called D-CAN, or Delta County College Access Network.  It's part of a national movement to help under-represented youth understand that they have the ability to be successful in post-secondary education.

The YMCA recently held an orientation meeting for the 110 students participating in the free program.

"We hope that these students that we serve start changing the culture in their schools. We want the culture in our community to change to that of a college-going culture," said Network Director Sara Cole.

The students will go on tours of Bay College and visit area businesses to learn about career opportunities.  The program ends in spring.
