MARQUETTE -- Hockey players competed against each other at the Berry Events Center Saturday to support the Marquette Women's Center. It was a three-on-three tournament called Hockey for Hope.

The Student Leadership Fellowship Program from Northern Michigan University organized the event.

Each player and spectator were asked to bring in a non-perishable item to donate to the Women's Center. The Women's Center provides shelter for domestic violence victims.

Between all eight teams, they collected boxes full of food, toiletries, and other items.

"We've already gotten so many donations, so no matter what happens the rest of the day, we're contributing a lot to the Women's Center, and that's the important part," said Liz Klareck, SLFP Secretary.

Hockey for Hope became an open skate for the community after the tournament.
