Two missing hunters in Ontonagon County found

ONTONAGON COUNTY -- Two hunters missing in Carp Lake Township are safe this Saturday.

Michigan State Police at the Wakefield Post say the pair was reported missing at 11:45 p.m. Friday in the Ontonagon County area of Silver City.

Troopers tracked the overdue hunters 1.5 miles back into the woods and found them.

The hunters had located the deer they shot, but their flashlights ran out of battery power, so they started a fire to keep warm, planned to stay the night, and walk out with first daylight.

The two were in good health and walked out on their own with the troopers.

Michigan State Police were assisted by the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Department.
