ESCANABA -- OSF in Escanaba recently unveiled a new texting appointment reminder service to reduce its rate of patients who don't show up for appointments because they forgot.

The hospital uses a third party to call patients two days prior to their appointment. The new text reminders will allow patients to cancel or reschedule their appointments.

The medical group will still have their phone reminders, but if you want a text reminder you can opt-in by contacting an OSF medical group physician office.

"It won't make them forget about their appointment or if they get that text message reminder and they forgot they had another appointment and they needed to reschedule," said Tammy Lewis. "They can call our office and reschedule that appointment."

The new texting service is a convenient option, since many people are on their cell phones several times a day.
