LANSING (AP) -- Seven colleges and universities in Michigan are sharing an $800,000 grant to provide former foster youth with a support program to help them succeed in higher education.

The funding was announced Wednesday by the Michigan Department of Human Services. It will pay for a social worker at each school to help former foster youth with issues including housing during breaks, assistance programs and support, and also helps support other related efforts.

The schools involved are Michigan State University, Wayne State University, Baker College of Flint, Ferris State University, Saginaw Valley University, Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan-Flint.
