HANCOCK -- Sew Sisters in Hancock and the Keweenaw Detachment 1016 Marine Corps League are having their annual Toys for Tots event, aimed at helping children who are less fortunate this holiday season.

If you're interested in donating toys, you can drop them off wherever you see a Toys for Tots box. All gifts must be brand new, unwrapped toys for ages 0 to 18.

"Every year, you never know what the need is. There are families that lose their jobs, they transfer, there's illnesses, death. You never know where a child is going to need that little bit of extra hope that everything's going to be okay, and that's what we try to do," said Sew Sisters owner, Sandy Coponen.

Toys will be given out to children in Houghton, Baraga, Ontonagon, and Keweenaw Counties. Last year 4,000 toys were distributed to 1,200 children.

The first 60 people to drop of toys at Sew Sisters in Hancock will receive a free gift.
