MARQUETTE -- The controversy continued Tuesday night at the Marquette County Board over a proposed mining severance tax in Upper Michigan. The severance tax would change the amount of money Marquette county receives from taxes on mining operations.

This would include the Rio Tinto Eagle Mine in northern Marquette county. The legislation has some commissioners concerned the county will lose tax revenue.

"I think that the plan itself was good for the U.P., but it might be based on faulty numbers which is the problem with what's made whole, what's not made whole," said County Commissioner Bill Nordeen.

The board continues to work with law makers in Lansing on the exact language of the bill. Officials say that the proposed tax could move through the Michigan House this week.
