Woman dead after morning crash

LUCE COUNTY -- A Luce County woman is dead after a crash that happened Monday morning.

According to the Luce County Sheriff's Department, this happened on East Victory Way around 8 a.m.

Vanessa Hoig, 56, was pulling out of a private drive when she pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle, driven by 36-year-old Harvey Giddens of Newberry, according to authorities.

Giddens was unable to avoid Hoig's vehicle and crashed into her. Hoig was taken to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Assisting at the scene were Luce County Ambulance, Newberry Fire Department, and the Michigan State Police.
