HANCOCK -- Portage Health Hospital held their first-ever Turkey Trot Thursday.

There was a high turnout with over 400 Copper Country residents participating in the 5K (3.2 mi.) run/walk.

Portage Health organizers say the Turkey Trot isn't a competition; it's just a great way to bring the community together, especially on a holiday.

"There's a lot of other communities in the United States and all over that offer a Turkey Trot or some fun run/walk event on Thanksgiving morning, and we thought it's be a great idea to bring one to our community,” said Angela Luskin, Community Health Coordinator for Portage Health. “Portage Health is active in the community. We thought this was a nice way to have people be a little bit more active before they go and indulge in their Thanksgiving dinner.”

From kids to pets, Portage Health says all are welcome, and the hospital is considering making the Turkey Trot an annual event.
