MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- Groups in Marquette County came together to fight a growing problem facing the youngest members of our community.

The Great Start Collaborative collection of various community groups throughout Marquette and Alger Counties distributed safe cribs Tuesday.

Lowes in Marquette Township provided the loading dock for the items.  According to the Department of Human Services there were 200 infant deaths statewide due to poor sleeping methods.

"Those deaths are occurred by either not following safe sleep or having children sleep in bed and the parent rolls over and suffocates that child.  Through cribs and these other measures we believe these are providing a safe environment for the kids to grow and flourish," said Doug York of the Department of Human Services.

The Great Start Collaborative distributed 55 cribs Tuesday.
