HANCOCK -- Bag after bag after bag of non-perishable food items were dropped off at Little Brothers in Hancock. Michigan Tech's Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity is holding their annual food drive for Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly.

"It tends to the elderly, it feeds them throughout the holidays, which we end up volunteering for also, delivering food. We just think it was a very charitable event for us to partake in," said Alex Brown.

The food drive is a fraternity tradition that's been going on for the past 18 years. Last year they raised 7,200 pounds of non-perishable food items, but this year they're raising their goal to 10,000 pounds.

Once volunteers carry in the goods, they weigh it in to keep a tally. Then, it's all hands in to organize every item in the right box.

Once the food is in boxes, it's all stored in the pantry.

Kathy Aten, Volunteer Program Director, says the food collected is given to more than 70 elderly people in the Copper Country throughout the year.

"Elderly people that we know or who have been referred to us as being low income or just making ends meet, so we have a specific list," said Aten.

If you haven't been able to donate, they are still accepting donations.
