MARQUETTE -- The 2012 Evergreen Award was handed out on Monday afternoon in Marquette.
Chris Myers, the CEO of Teaching Family Homes, was recognized for being a visionary for women and children to reach their potential. It's her determination that's given futures to hundreds of forgotten and abused children.
Teaching Family Homes sits on a 40-acre campus in Chocolay Township. Myers said she usually helps behind the scenes on the Evergreen Award steering committee.
"It never crossed my mind that I would be selected, and I know that there are so many deserving women in the community," said Myers. "It's a great community to grow and develop in and I'm just honored that I was selected for this."
The Evergreen Award is organized by the Zonta Club of Marquette and is open to men and women of Marquette County.
