MARQUETTE COUNTY -- The reported nerve agent exposure was not a threat or a hoax, but involved the exposure to methamphetamine lab fumes, according to police.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Department has been investigating a case involving a reported nerve agent exposure on Thursday evening. Staff at Bell Memorial Hospital received a call of possible nerve agent exposure at 7:45 p.m. involving a 23-year-old man.

After further investigation police believe that the woman who called in the incident was fearful of being suspected of methamphetamine use. Authorities say that the 23-year-old man may have been exposed and ingested fumes emitted from a meth lab days earlier.

As a precaution Bell Memorial Hospital and Marquette General Hospital went into lockdown during the incident. Bell Memorial also prepared to conduct decontamination operations. When Bell Memorial Hospital contacted the woman who reported the incident she stated that the man had been taken to MGH, which officials say was not true.

Police reported that the investigation is remaining open, pending review by the prosecutor's office.
