Chilly air settles in Upper Michigan for the weekend

UPPER PENINSULA -- Cooler air continues to rush into the Upper Peninsula behind a mid-October cold front. Breezy conditions will certainly make it feel more like late October.

On Saturday, a weak disturbance will move across Lake Superior and change our wind direction from westerly to northerly. Shifting the winds focus the precipitation from the Copper Country to include a more widespread area.

Most U.P. locations have a chance at seeing these rain and snow showers developing off of Lake Superior through Saturday night. These showers should taper off on Sunday, gradually becoming sunnier. The highest accumulations (2"-4") should fall in the higher elevations of the north and west Upper Peninsula.

You may recall that the second half of September was colder than normal: the coldest daytime high temperature was 48° and the coldest overnight low temperature was 29°. But now we are truly experiencing the coldest weather of the fall season so far.

Just yesterday we had high temperatures in the middle 40s. And tonight, inland locations should reach a chilly low in the middle 20s.
