EBEN JUNCTION -- Tuesday, the Department of Natural Resources showed the public its plans for forest management in 2014. They held an open house at Superior Central Schools.

Every year DNR staff come up with plans for forest management that include harvesting timber, wildlife needs, replanting and other management strategies. They use these open houses as a way to receive public comment about their future plans.

"A big part of our local economy is forest management and utilization of wood products, and we like to hear from the public as far as what their opinions are on what we propose for our treatments as far as our harvests go," said Dean Wilson of the Michigan DNR.

The DNR also talked about managing threats to the Upper Peninsula wilderness. Those threats include the emerald ash borer and beech bark disease.
