MARQUETTE -- Bishop Baraga days wrapped up Sunday in Marquette with the Bishop Baraga Association annual meeting.

People arrived at Northern Michigan University by the busload after attending mass at St. Peter Cathedral. The banquet dinner sold out and fed more than 350 people. Visitors enjoyed some music and dance from the Singing Slovenes from Duluth. Bishop Alexander Sample unveiled the plans for the new chapel addition at the cathedral in honor of Bishop Baraga being declared venerable earlier this year. The BBA believes this has helped attendance.

"There's more this year because of the declaration of venerable," said BBA Associate Director Lenora McKeen.

"People are very excited that they are able to publicly venerate Bishop Baraga, so the support has grown."

Bishop Baraga days takes place in a city outside of the Marquette Diocese every other year. Next year it will be in Duluth.
