MARQUETTE -- At Northern Michigan University on Friday, the Board of Trustees approved a new three-year contract that was previously approved by the American Association of University Professors.

AAUP is the larger of two bargaining units on campus and represents 382 members.

After no wage increases in the past two years, the new agreement includes a 2.45 percent increase in the first year.

"Although no contract is ever deemed perfect from either side, this is a good solid contract," said AAUP chapter president Dr. Ronald Sundell. "With this settlement, faculty can concentrate on what they do best...teaching scholarship and service to the university and the community."

The board also discussed a slight decline in enrollment this fall and voted to rename the Jacobetti Center the Jacobetti Complex starting October 1.
