MARQUETTE -- As the hockey season approaches, businesses in Marquette are getting ready to roll out a big welcome, and they need your help. They need teams, businesses or hockey fans to pick up wooden skate cutouts and paint them for display on light poles in downtown Marquette.

The skates will be up from September 24 through October 8. This will coincide with the fourth annual Marquette Old Timers Hockey Tournament.

"We're celebrating hockey in Marquette. We love to celebrate the start of the season, and we do so with a parade every year on Third Street, and these skate cutouts just help us celebrate the event," said John Thomsen of Johnson's Superior Shoes.

You can pick up the skates at Perani's Hockey World on Third Street during business hours, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The skates must be returned by September 19.
