MARQUETTE -- Monday, the Marquette City Commission heard from a group trying to restore the deteriorating Presque Isle Marina. The group expressed their frustration with the city's plan to see the project through to completion.
They singled out City Manager Bill Vajda, saying that he had manipulated the system and was not sharing information with the rest of the commission. Vajda defended himself at Monday's meeting.
"In the case of every single speaker here this evening, contrary to every other practice that we've established for openness in government, I've received no contact from any of them," said Marquette City Manager Bill Vajda. "Not a single one has scheduled time with me, caught me at community office hours, asked to come to my office and speak to me about these specific issues or otherwise take steps to clarify any rumors that have been floating around the boating community about how these projects work together."
The commission also saw a presentation on the restoration of the Father Marquette statue. City staff also mentioned a tentative schedule for a ribbon cutting ceremony on the McClellan Avenue extension this Friday.
